Why Blogging Is The Best Hobby I've Had // Confidence in Blogging

~ Why Blogging Is The Best Hobby I've Had // Confidence in Blogging ~

We've all had hobbies as a child. When I was little I was always up to some kind of after school activity, that being gymnastics or swimming. But as with everything, we all grow up and grow out of things. Don't get me wrong, I've never been a quitter, I've always seen things out for as long as possible. But as I turned from child to teenager, doing any kind of activity suddenly becomes totally 'uncool' - had to keep that street cred. But in little world of Lisa, when the dynamic of school came to an end, I discovered a brand new activity. A hobby were I had no idea what I was doing but soon enough this lil thing called blogging became something I loved to do. Soon enough (and fast forward to right now) I can out rightly say this may be the best hobby I've ever had.

When I think back to how I discovered what this whole blogging thing is, I actually can remember clearly what I read and who it was. In the same context, I can remember being shown YouTube by my cousin and her showing me there were such things as 'youtubers'. Way back in 2012, I can vividly remember been shown a video with Zoella in, with another, If I'm right having JacksGap in. Of course from there I went on to delve further into who these people were, finding them ~ of course~ so interesting - this is what lead me to Instagram. It was from there and having followed my all time favourite brand (even back then!) Lulu Guinness is when I discovered blogger Olivia Purvis, with her blog 'What Olivia Did'. I specifically remember, this post being were it all started. I fell in love with her style and how she was able to document everything, taking beautiful pictures in equally beautiful clothes.

Of course back in 2013, being around 16 years old I was thee most shy person you would have ever met. The thought of starting a blog? Actually sharing photos of me posing? FOR PEOPLE TO SEE. I'd have cried. But I did love to read blogs. But of course, curiosity got the better of me in the end and so I started this blog. I remember pressing publish on some crappy post about the watermelon print trend because I'd bought a jumper with watermelons on, so naturally thought hey I'll BLOG about it!!!' -I've actually deleted that post now because it was both embarrassing and nothing special. But every other post is still on here. That was 3 years ago and if I think how different I am today, how much confidence I have in myself now - I'm literally a different person to back then.

I can remember I would be too embarrassed to tweet anyone on Twitter. I'd be following blogger but be so shy that the thought of tweeting them and them thinking I was weird was crippling - how stupid does that sound?! but it was so true! Of course, blogging can sometimes make you look a bit vain, now when I'm taking 'outfit photos' I still get that little voice in the back of my mind, when I'm posing/ pulling a serious face for the camera, that people may think I love myself - but really, now I couldn't give a shit. Blogging has genuinely kept me sane the past 3 years. Its given me purpose and I've met a some lovely people online - Lily being one of my genuine besties. It makes me smile that we've only ever spoken online but she's one of the first people I think to tell anything to and we ~always~ have something to chat about. If it wasn't for blogging I'd have never met Lily (what a sad thought!!)

Genuinely, blogging is one of the best hobbies I've had, from the planning photos in the week to shooting some outfit I've dreamed up on the weekend. To the promoting on social media, I have to say its 100% helped me turn from a self-conscious shy girl to someone who has pride in themselves.. I have a lot to thank for this little hobby of mine, I really do!

  3. This is such an awesome post, I feel the exact same way! Blogging has been a constant in my life for over 3 years that I am completely in control of and sometimes that's exactly what I need. It's also given me purpose and something to do with my free time that's a creative outlet and productive.
